Birmingham Numismatic Society, or the Nomadic Numismatists because of the variety of venues at which it has met, was formed in May 1964. It aims to bring together collectors of coins (ancient and modern), tokens, medallions and banknotes in the city which has been regarded as the Birthplace of Modern Coinage thanks to the industry and enterprise of Matthew Boulton.
The Society has issued two commemorative medals. The first in 1971 was manufactured by TJ Skelton to record the introduction of decimalisation (and the demise of £sd). The second was by HB Sale in 1989 for the city's centenary and the Society's 25th birthday.
History
Currently the Society meets quarterly on Wednesdays at 7pm in The Friends Meeting House, Bull Street in Birmingham city centre (bus, rail & metro links are nearby and there is parking available - it is not free parking). The next meeting is on 8th February 2010. All are welcome; Email for details.
